This report provides a comprehensive assessment of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in railway applications, focusing on improving energy efficiency, passenger comfort, environmental sustainability, and system reliability. It identifies key operational and environmental parameters influencing HVAC performance, including passenger load, climate conditions, and train service profiles, and évaluâtes simulation-based approaches aligned with international standards such as ISO 19659. The study examines both physical system enhancements-such as improved insulation, heat exchangers, and smart glazing-and advanced control strategies, including occupancy-based ventilation, dynamic temperature setpoints, and free cooling.

In addition, the report explores the transition to environmentally sustainable refrigerants, highlighting low Global Warming Potential (GWP) alternatives such as CO? (R744) and air-cycle systems, while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. It also benchmarks air quality improvement strategies from sectors such as aviation and healthcare, recommending multi-stage filtration, UV-C disinfection, and real-time adaptive control to enhance indoor air quality. Furthermore, the reliability of HVAC systems is addressed through a detailed review of advanced thermal management techniques for power electronic components, including liquid cooling, heat pipes, and emerging hybrid solutions.
