1. Scope |
1.1 These test methods cover the determination of the percentage of total beam energy contained in a given far-field divergence angle, without requiring the use of calibrated energy detectors. The methods make use of an apertured-detector technique. 1.2 These test methods apply to pulsed lasers in which the output polarization characteristics do not vary between successive pulses. 1.3 A single-detector method is used when the variation in energy from shot to shot of the laser under test is less than or equal to a value agreed upon by the parties to the test. 1.4 A double-detector method is used when the variation in energy from shot to shot of the laser under test exceeds a value agreed upon by the parties to the test. 1.5 The reported precision applies to lasers with cylindrically symmetric beam energy-density distributions. Deviation of the beam from cylindrical symmetry may decrease the precision of the test methods. 1.6 The appropriate test method may be applied for a given laser at a number of divergence angles and a relative beam-energy profile derived. 1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For hazard statement, see Section 9. |
