The International Union of Railways (UIC) develops and distributes International Railway Solutions (IRS) in order to help railway stakeholders achieve further harmonisation and collaboration.
 
This IRS deals with the requirements and test programme for the conformity assessment of buffer head materials.
 
It is addressed to rail freight undertakings (RU), entities in charge of the maintenance of wagons (ECM), infrastructure managers (IM), wagon manufacturers and notified bodies.
 
It integrates in full or in part the following UIC leaflets:
- UIC Leaflet 527-1 (Point 1.3 and Appendices D and E)
 
It aims to complement the following standards:
- EN 15551
